hi

I think the way it was done in photoshop, was have background in grey and add a new white layer, use the marquee tool to make box, then go to layer-layer mask-reveal selection, this will leave part of the grey background showing, then go to layer style and add a drop shadow or any style you what. flaten and crop

What he said ^^ Will work fine, i dont think u need to add a layer mask though just use the drop shadow in the blending options
or LAyer > Layer style > Drop Shadow
