Very new to making Websites

Soo im very new to making website, i use dreamweaver and mainly CSS Stylesheets and DIV Tags, I need to learn alot more now about making websites and other stuff, basically at the minute i want to know how to make the website/layout automatically stretch its self to the screen resolution when your on the page instead of being like 780 x 700 pixels in the middle of the page.

Im not to sure if you guys understand what i mean but like i said im very new to this.

Thanks Ross1308

You mean making websites for all resolutions you mean?

Well when using tables in Dreamweaver, while creating do not use the pixels in width.. instead of using PIXELS use PERCENTAGE.. example..

width : 95%-100%

Hope you like my example.. (it's fool proof)

Hope that answers your question

Hi Robb1308,
im pretty sure what your looking for is called 'liquid layouts'.
A good tutorial is: http://www.maxdesign.com.au/presentation/liquid/
tells you all about them, and how to implement them
Hope it helps,
Rob

The problem with liquid or elastic sites is that at high resolutions the content area can be very wide, making each line of text longer which makes it harder to read.

Have you ever been on a website which has very long lines of text?

It is very tiresome to read because your eyes have to travel a long way to scan from side to side.

They reckon the optimum width for a line of text for it to be easily readable is about 4 inches. I like to have a fixed width for my sites of around 950 to 980px which is good for the most common resolution of 1024 x 768 or thereabouts.
