Hello, and welcome to the Cartoon Effect tutorial. This is my third tutorial, and i hope you guys and girls like it.

Step 1 : Open your picture, or use mine.



Step 2 : Duplicate the background layer 2 times by pressing ctrl/j.

Step 3 : Hide the top layer by clicking the eye in front of the layer, after that you select the middle layer.

Step 4 : Apply the gaussian blur filter to the layer, by going to filter/blur/gaussian blur. Set the radius to 20 pixels.

Step 5 : Now we need to fade the gaussian blur, go to edit/fade gaussian blur
or press shift/ctrl/f. Change the mode from normal to darken.

Step 6 : Apply the poster edges filter by going to filter/artistic/poster edges.
Use the following settings.

Edge thickness = 0
Edge intensity = 5
Posterization = 6

Step 7 : Now unhide the top layer by clicking the eye again, and then select the top layer by clicking on it.

Step 8 : Now we need to apply the poster edges filter to this layer too, now you can press ctrl/f to automatticly apply the filter because it was the last filter we used.

Step 9 : Apply the gaussian blur filter to this layer. by going to filter/blur/gaussian blur. But now we must use a radius of 10 pixels.

Step 10 : Now we need to fade the gaussian blur, go to edit/fade gaussian blur or press shift/ctrl/f. Change the mode from normal to darken.

Step 11 : Select the middle layer and lower the opacity to 50%, now select the top layer and change the blending mode from normal to screen.

This is the final result.
