In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to make a very quick and cool metal effect useful for posters, web designs or logos etc...

1. Open a new 800x600 document and type whatever you want. I used Times New Roman font. Add these blending options :


2.Duplicate the type layer and name it Metal and add these blending options :


3.Make a Curves layer change its blending option to Vivid light and make the curve as shown below :


4.Link the curves layer and "Metal" layer and merge them. You will get a very metalic looking font in short time, that's my own way in making metal objects:


5.But that is not all. Now add these settings to the metal layer :


6. Now start erasing parts from the metal layer using a hard rounded brush or any other tool you prefer. You're done. I hope you find this tutorial useful.

I was looking for some kind of unique effect for a robotics header. Add a couple of screw heads, a few wires and BINGO!
