Multi Browser Support

My default browser on my home computer is Firefox and but my friends cant view my web page on internet explorer. It's kinda odd bc I use this code

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

right before the <html> coding for my header in .php. (its on the top of my style.css page) is there a footer for the tag? im not quite sure what is going on.
