photoshop vs. illustrator
I am new to this site, so first of all I would like to say HI!, and I really enjoy the community you guys have built.
I am currently a web programmer, but I really want to delve into creating some of my own templates. I noticed that all the templates on this site are built in photoshop, and i was wondering if illustrator could be used. I am very familiar with illustrator, and you use it for logos and such, so I was wondering which was easier. Please get back to me, and tell me which is easier and why. Thanks, Shelton |

for layouts id stick with photoshop since its more flexible.
For logos backgrounds and icons i greatly advise illustrator because of its power and abilities in design.

thank you
thank you very much.
one other thing i was wondering is : once i get a template, media player, or ANYTHING else. how do i get it to actually work on the web. i know flash is a good tool for the media player idea. but i mean, how do i let flash know what things on the media player mean? do you see what i am saying? |

Also to get back to your main topic question, i would say this are two very good programs but with different specialties. I like to work with photoshop simply because that's the program i started with so it kinda became a habit, illustrator is vector based though and i think it's more designed for drawing images logo's or whatever. Where i see photoshop more as a photo manipulating program so i think the main difference is vector/non vector. For the difference between these two try creating exactly the same image in both photoshop and illustrator and then publish them on a webpage and zoom in, you'll obviously see pixels in the photoshop image where the illustrator image is still smooth. |

i was just wondering like ..
if i made a skin for a new media player design, how would i make it work? how would i get flash to know WHERE the "play" button was ? .. just as an example. i built a skin for a media player (similar to myspace's music player) , and i want to know how to make it "work"... if you could get me started on that, that would be great. thanks. |

About the Flash... The easiest way to accomplish what your going for.. Is to use Flash cs3... Import the video, and if you don't know actionscript, I would reccomend using the new media player controls
There is a play/pause button, a scroller, rewind, fullscreen, and other various codes built right into flash for you. The only thing is having to modify them. Just go to Window/Components.. When that menu comes up, just go to the video tab. They will have buttons already done... You just modify them to the way you like, and your done.Photoshop is extremely good to use for designing a website, your video player buttons and whatever else you need. As far as web design goes... For Illustrator, I would just use it for your site logo, and other various/related things. |
